Current Global Gaming scene
Posted by Shawn in Uncategorized on 11 23rd, 2008| | No Comments »

It is in the US, Korea and Japan that video gaming has come out of living rooms and basements and has been elevated into any other sports like baseball or basketball. Teams - also called clans - made up of hardcore gamers comfortable in a particular genre like FPS, RPG or racing games compete in gaming conventions. Other pro gamers play individually. Ultimately, a gamer plays in a team or individually depends on the type of game.

As gamers started playing professionally, gaming leagues have been established to conduct tournaments in the model of bodies like FIFA. However unlike other sports like soccer there is no single global body to regulate gaming. Some countries have competing leagues while others have one at the national level. Some active leagues are MLG, Pro Gaming League, Championship Gaming Series, World Cyber Games. Most of these leagues organize tournaments sponsored by virtually all the vendors that make game oriented hardware.

Playing Online
Posted by Shawn in Gaming, Internet, Multiplayer on 11 17th, 2008| | 1 Comment »

Being a professional gamer, I always like to keep playing games and enhance my skills. The most frequent games that I play are Counter Strike 1.6,  FIFA 07, NFS MostWanted, etc. When my friends or team mates are reluctant to play the games together, I switch to the online mode. I play these games online with the skilled players from all over the world. This does enhance my skills.

One technical difficulty that most of the people face while playing online is because of the ADSL router which makes direct connection difficult. If this is the case, you need to download a free VPN software called Hamachi by LogMeIn. This software allots a unique virtual IP to your machine. After installing this software, you need to create a network and all the other players can join it through Hamachi and start playing your favorite multiplayer game.

To get Hamachi, go to: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/vpn.asp

3G Internet

Internet is the best means of communication but, it is not possible to carry a PC connected to the internet everywhere. Hence, people started using GPRS by connecting mobile phone to their laptops. But, the GPRS connection is usually very slow. Recently, there has been a breakthrough in the GSM world after the innovation of 3rd generation of mobiles which facilitate mobile broadband.

This form of internet can attain a speed of 100+kbps and ensure smooth internet experience. Live video streaming can also be done with this internet, but with a low quality because of less bandwidth.

Also, the 3G technology supports video calls. You can set up a video conference with your mobile phone, you can see the other person live talking to you!

Protecting your network
Posted by Shawn in Uncategorized on 11 15th, 2008| | No Comments »

The landscape of doing business today is significantly different from the landscape of just five years ago. Companies are more connected than ever, with the promise that network expansion will only continue. As a result, companies must grapple with how to keep their network safe, without sacrificing growth or productivity which will in turn definitely harm the company’s progress.

In order to secure your network, you need to first identify the possible threats and where your systems have a loophole. Also, you should be aware of all the possible vulnerabilities and try to fix them by updating the software components.

Send and receive money with PayPal
Posted by Shawn in Payments on 11 7th, 2008| | No Comments »

Sending and receiving money over the internet to friends, family and also sellers have never been as problem for me since I started using PayPal. PayPal is an online payment processor through which users are able to send and receive with an email address.

PayPal has revolutionized the way transactions were carried out, just with a click of a button, you can transfer money from one corner of the world. US account holders can also order a PayPal debit card and withdraw cash from an ATM. For non US users, the withdrawal option are bank transfer and check. I would recommend the use of PayPal to everyone.

Shopping online

Shopping online is the best form of shopping as it is the most convenient way and you do not have to waste your energy running all over the place. For shopping online, you need to have a credit card. When I shop online, I only shop at ebay.com as it is the most reliable. There had been a lot of safety issues with credit cards while shopping online. Actually, you need to be cautious while using a credit card online.

Never enter your credit card number in any of the sites which do not have Verisign certificate. This certificate ensures that the credit card information is secure and will not be stored anywhere on the server. So please, look for the certificate!
